Most of the folk that uses one often forget about these little tasks that can save your laptop or a computer. For example one of the easiest ways one can speed up its pc or laptop speed is by cleaning the temporary files a computer or a laptop keeps as a reserve of backup.
These files are known as caches where temporary data gets stored. There are different types of caches that get stored on the hard disk of the computer, the primary cache is the RAM, the Secondary Cache is the Hard Drive, and last but not least the Tertiary cache. The desktop’s temporary files are normally stored in the primary cache also known as the RAM or the Random Access Memory.
While the primary cache acts as a buffer between the CPU and the RAM where the system stores all the necessary data in working memory before it gets transferred to the secondary and tertiary caches respectively.
The primary cache is where all the data that needs to be read to get processed is normally stored while on the other hand the data that gets stored in it is deleted once the processing is done.
Another reason your PC or Laptop runs slow is because of high memory usage.
Here are the three of the most important folders you should clear often:
- “Temp” folder – This is one of the most important ones to clean because it can contain a lot of unnecessary junk that will eat up your memory. (TEMP) – This file is found under C:\Windows\Temp\
- ” %Temp% “ folder – Literally named: “TEMP” folder should be cleared of any data, as often. This file is found under C:\Windows\%Temp%\
- ” Prefetch “ – If you are running a Windows-based machine then try clearing this folder as well; This file is found under C:\Windows\Prefetch\
Follow these simple steps below to learn the practice of deleting these.
Step 1: Open search on your Windows device and type: RUN
Step 2: In the run window that opens type: TEMP
Step 3: When you hit enter after you type TEMP in the run search bar it will either open the TEMP folder or ask for admin permissions, in case it asks accept.
Step 4: Press Control or Command + A (selects all folders and files in the TEMP folder)
Step 5: Press “DELETE” to delete all of the selected files and folders. Repeat the process for all 3 documents respectively.
Final Conclusion
If you do this religiously at least once a week, you will see a dramatic improvement in the performance of your Desktop/Laptop. Try doing it more frequently if you can and you will see even faster results.
There is a bonus step you can do to improve the speed of your device even more:
Go to your settings and turn on FAST STARTUP from Settings->System->Advanced System Settings->Startup And Recovery and click on “Settings” next to the BOOT TIME option and click “Adjust for faster performance”.
